Her ancestral roots are in Alaska where December offers just over five hours of daylight and June sees little darkness. Her family was early explorers to the northern state, and relatives still live there today. Outer Banks artist Carol Trotman, moved from a tiny Corn Belt town in Iowa no bigger than 0.5 square miles to Anchorage as a World War II Depression baby. As a preteen she remembers mandatory lights out on the Inland Passageway because of the presence of the Japanese. Her life is rich in memories and has been graced by the arts.
