Taipei, Oct. 27, 2009 (CENS) -- The Taiwan-based MediaTek Inc., a globally leading developer of handset IC (integrated circuit) chips, has announced a plan to ally Taiwan's six officially licensed operators of WiMAX (worldwide interoperability for microwave access)-based services, in a bid to seize huge business potential in the market for next-generation communications.

The six licensed WiMAX operators include Far EasTone Telecommunications Co., First International Telecom Corp., Global Mobile Corp., Tatung InfoComm Co., Vee Telecom Multimedia Co. and VMAX Telecom Co.
