Many CFOs in traditional healthcare settings, such as hospitals and clinics, are making successful career moves into managed care. Experienced, sophisticated, hospital-based CFOs and those whose backgrounds include work with large, multispecialty physician groups or clinics may actually be better positioned to move into a comparable managed care role than other senior executives at traditional providers. This ability is due largely to the nature of the work CFOs do, since good business practices and sound accounting principles are needed in healthcare organizations of all stripes.
