When Susan Docherty replaced Mark LaNeve as General Motors' vice president of U.S. sales last month, she bucked a growing trend. Docherty, 46, is one of the few female auto executives who is moving up this year, rather than moving out.
Several high-ranking women have left the Detroit 3 since December. Last week GM said Jill Lajdziak, 52, Saturn's top executive, will retire at the end of the year. In August, Beth Lowery, 53, GM's chief environmental, energy and safety officer, also announced she would retire.
