According to Subaru, it was the first to the crossover-vehicle party with the Outback in 1995, which basically was a raised Legacy wagon with plastic cladding. Three generations later, the Outback has become a hit with outdoor types and is a staple on hiking trails and campgrounds.
With the debut of the 2010 Outback, Subaru moves away from the wagon look in favor of wider-appealing crossover attire. Credit a vertical growth spurt of 2.3 inches (4.1 inches including the roof rails) and an additional 2.0 inches in width over the outgoing model to bring it in line with the Toyota Venza and the Honda CR-V.
