The youth in Rosemount now have a voice.

And the City Council wants them to speak their minds as members of the newly created Rosemount Youth Commission.

The City Council approved the formation of the group, which will begin meeting monthly in January, with the goal of attracting more local teens into volunteering and civic affairs.

Mayor Bill Droste said the city is ripe for a youth commission because nearly a third of its population is 17 or younger.

"Youth issues become more pronounced because of the population," he said. "There's many things we do in the city that affect them."
