The U.S. market for new tugs is down. Work-Boat's most recent construction survey lists 61 new tugs under contract, under construction, or recently delivered--down from 78 a year ago.

In its April tug market report, Coupeville, Wash.-based shipbroker Marcon International Inc. said for-sale listings for U.S. tugs were up over 22 percent since October 2008 and that the average age of available tugs was going down. This indicates that newer tugs are coming on the market.
