St. John: St. JohnAEs Lutheran Church and School, 115 N. Spring in Elgin, will celebrate the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The current church year has only three weekends remaining and the readings begin to turn attention to the return of Christ and the end times. The Rev. Hannibal Frederich will preach on "Winding Down," based on Hebrews 9:28. The middle school handbell choir will perform at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service.
