FONTANA - The switch of the fall Sprint Cup race at Auto Club Speedway from Labor Day Sunday to early October seems to have won the approval of drivers, many of whom recall hot temperatures that reached triple digits.

"You felt you were sitting in front of a hair dryer all day," said David Reutimann, whose illegal shocks cost him the outside pole for today's NASCAR Pepsi 500.

"It's a day race and certainly this time of year is the perfect time of year for us to be here weather-wise. You just can't beat this weather," Jeff Gordon said. "Track temperature and everything is just perfect for the race cars.
