This year, Christmas will be celebrated at Beauvoir, the home of Jefferson Davis, for the second year since the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Since many historic homes were lost during the storm, Beauvoir is now the oldest home on the Gulf Coast. Artisans from Virginia worked for thirteen months refinishing the cypress doors and mantels. Previously painted white, today the doors are refinished to a faux bois. The master plan for Beauvoir is to make the site larger and include natural botanical gardens.
