A government team tasked with aiding the turnaround of Japan Airlines Corp. asked Friday the company's creditor banks, including the state-backed Development Bank of Japan, to provide bridge loans to the struggling airline, sources familiar with the matter said.

The main banks -- which also include Mizuho Corporate Bank, the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. -- gave no immediate reply since they are seeking that state guarantees be attached to the bridge loans, the sources said.
