RACING colours are at once trivial and vitally important, for what else matters so little to the outcome of a race, but is so fundamentally linked to it? As in most areas of life, the mantra 'keep it simple' is best applied to the selection of a set of racing colours. It is not for nothing that Sheikh Mohammed bought those royal blue silks from trainer Alan Bailey when he set up Godolphin, or that Sue Magnier went for the antique but timeless single set of dark blue, an easy trademark, a shorthand for success.
