A sloppy start wasn't enough to derail the powerful Westmoreland express Friday at the Carrier Dome.
After falling behind 7-0 to start the game, unbeaten and No. 1 state-ranked Westmoreland (10-0) rallied to score the next 36 points en route to a 43-20 victory over Class D West champion Weedsport in the Section III Class D title game.
With the win, coach Tim Gates' Bulldogs advanced to play either Delhi (9-0) or Groton (8-1) in a state quarterfinal contest next weekend at Union-Endicott High School.
