SYDNEY, Nov 9 Asia Pulse - The Australian sharemarket was over 1.5 per cent higher at noon led by gains in financial stocks on a strong trading performance by Commonwealth Bank and takeover talks among insurers.

At 1200 AEDT, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 74.9 points, or 1.63 per cent, at 4,668.9, while the broader All Ordinaries had gained 75.7 points, or 1.64 per cent, to 4,680.1.

On the Sydney Futures Exchange, the December share price index contract was 80 points higher at 4,681, on volume of 18,509 contracts.
