Cheever book: best of '09, group says
Barely November, and the best-of lists are popping up. Publishers Weekly picked Blake Bailey's biography of John Cheever as its best adult book of '09. Bailey is the Norfolk resident (now a writer in residence at William & Mary) who landed here after his home in New Orleans was flooded by Hurricane Katrina.
PW described the book as "a fresh reappraisal of (Cheever's) achievement. In addition, Bailey offers up juicy, appalling, hilarious and moving anecdotes with verve, sensitivity and perfect timing." (www. tinyurl.com/ykc2hzu )
