If you want to learn about the links between Jews and jazz, talk with saxophonist Paul Shapiro. But be prepared for him to burst into song.
Shapiro's band Ribs and Brisket performs Yiddish-tinged jazz and swing of the '30s through '50s. As he talks about this weekend's show in Newton, he can't resist singing snippets from "Dunkin' Bagel" and "Mama Goes Where Papa Goes," both on the band's new CD "Essen."
