In the absence of deal volume, the steady drum of activity coming out of the health care space has managed to keep the M&A engine from completely seizing. Driven by the idea that health care is countercyclical, and perhaps motivated to plant a flag in the space ahead of possible reform, acquirers have targeted nearly every corner of the sector-from pharmaceutical plays to managed care to services, which can encompass IT companies or claims processing outfits.
