THE first alliance summit since Jacob Zuma became president of the country is likely to be dominated by tense relations among allies and intense debates on contentious issues such as economic policies, the role of the planning commission and local governance.
Earnest efforts behind the scenes are aimed at allaying the Left's fears that their arch-enemy Trevor Manuel, Minister in the Presidency for Planning, will trump the powers of their cabinet champion, Economic Policy Minister Ebrahim Patel.
