Nearly two thirds of the EU population (64%) expects the current economic situation to lead to more age-based discrimination in the job market. This is one of the findings of an Eurobarometer survey that aims to track Europeans' perceptions of discrimination. The report also says that one in six (16%) people in Europe claim to have personally experienced discrimination in the past year. The Commissioner for Equal Opportunities, Vladimir Spidla, said, on 9 November, that an "area of concern is the perceived rise in age discrimination as a result of the recession".
