ONLY one-third of Scots support controversial SNP plans for a new [pounds sterling]2.3billion road crossing over the River Forth.

More than half would rather see a refurbishment of the existing 45-year-old road bridge, according to a YouGov opinion poll published yesterday.

With ministers expected to publish a Holyrood Bill within weeks to authorise a second Forth Road Bridge, opinion is divided on whether it is needed.

Under the Scottish Executive plan, the existing bridge would become 'a dedicated public transport corridor' also carrying cyclists and pedestrians, while a new crossing ...
