MORE than 30 high-profile representatives of the Irish horse industry met at UCD on Wednesday to address a looming horse welfare emergency.
Prices for horses have plummeted and there has been a sharp increase in welfare issues in the past year as the wider economic crisis takes its toll on the horse industry.
Experts say that a massive horse welfare crisis is expected in the coming months unless measures are taken to address the overproduction of horses in Ireland.
