LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Akorn, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKRX) a specialty pharmaceutical company, today reported financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2009.

Consolidated revenue for the third quarter 2009 was $19.4 million, versus $31.9 million in the third quarter 2008 representing a decrease of approximately 39%. The decrease was due to lower sales of tetanus-diphtheria ("Td") and flu vaccines and overall lower sales to wholesalers as part of an effort to reduce wholesaler inventory levels.
