Seoul shares rose 1 percent early Monday, extending Friday's gains on the back of resilient U.S. markets, led by steel, construction and select tech shares.
Programme buying lifted key stocks market-wide ahead of Thursday's option expiry, analysts said, but they noted overall buying power was still limited.
'Programme trading is helping and investors are betting the upcoming monetary policy meeting would keep rates unchanged,' said Lee Seung-woo, an analyst at Daewoo Securities.
'But the gains are seen as mostly technical and caution is still needed.'
