Officials with the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities and other dignitaries plan to celebrate the opening of the Bethel Airport's new parallel runway during a Nov. 10 commencement ceremony.

The runway project - aimed at easing congestion and eliminating down time for operators and travelers at the state's third busiest airport - cost a little more than $24 million in federal funds and was completed in two phases.

Work first began in Sept. 2005.
