A face-lift for the foot of State Street is set to begin in spring after the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation awarded a contract for the work.
Mayer Brothers Construction Co. of Erie received the $1.052 million contract for enhancements along State Street from the Bayfront Parkway to Dobbins Landing.
The work will include adding a boulevard to the street, along with new sidewalks, curbing, drainage, paving, lighting, landscaping and signage, officials said.
The plan did not move forward sooner because there weren't funds, Don Hall, PennDOT's regional assistant executive for design, said earlier this year.
