A TARGET to wipe out fuel poverty among vulnerable groups in Wales by next year will remain despite fears that it can't be met, the Assembly Government said yesterday.

A big rise in people struggling to heat their homes amid rising fuel costs and the impact of the recession means the goal to eradicate fuel poverty in "vulnerable households" by 2010 is now unlikely to be achieved.

But ministers have kept the ambition in a revised strategy to tackle the problem.
