SYDNEY, Nov 10 Asia Pulse - The Australian sharemarket opened firmly in the black following strong gains on Wall Street.

At 1015 AEDT, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 77.4 points, or 1.66 per cent, at 4,752.3 while the broader All Ordinaries had gained 77.3 points, or 1.65 per cent, to 4,763.8.

On the Sydney Futures Exchange, the December share price index contract was 78 points higher at 4,762 on volume of 8,874 contracts.

ANZ Banking Group is to offer convertible preference shares to raise $750 million in tier one capital.

Its shares added 29 cents, or 1.28 per cent, to $22.95.
