To the surprise of many who had observed the political situation in Northern Ireland over the past decades, an agreement was reached between the political parties in Northern Ireland on Good Friday, 10 April this year. The biggest surprise was the agreement of Sinn Fein to a political settlement of the Northern Ireland conflict that stopped far short of a united Ireland.
