The Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association may not have thought too highly of seniors on prep boys soccer teams in the Madison area, but the coaches must have liked what they saw in two underclassmen.
They made Madison Memorial sophomore forward Lucas Cardona a first-team selection and named Madison La Follette junior Jesus Miranda to the second team on the WSCA all-state team released recently.
Cardona, the first sophomore since 2004 named to the WSCA first team, helped Madison Memorial to a WIAA Division 1 state runner-up finish. He led the Spartans in scoring with 14 goals and eight assists.
