There was a sense of emptiness last month when Edgerton senior Allyssa Ferrell walked away from her prep girls golf career without a WIAA state title.
But the Wisconsin High School Golf Coaches Association filled that void for the Michigan State recruit recently by naming her the 2009 state player of the year.
"Not winning a state championship was kind of hard," Ferrell said Monday. "But you're not meant to win everything. I was very surprised and excited to find out that the coaches voted me player of the year because I was disappointed walking away from the state tournament."
