In the past couple of weeks, the Department of Health and Human Services has approved four more states to be eligible for the federal Children's Health Insurance Program, which provides coverage for thousands of uninsured children. The new states are Iowa, Kansas, Delaware and Georgia. CHIP was created by the federal Balanced Budget Act of 1997 and provides states with $24 billion over the next five years to design and implement programs that expand health insurance coverage for children.
