The game plans were similar and sound. One was executed with brutal effectiveness. The other was often just brutal. The difference, plain and simply, is talent.
The college football teams at Pittsburgh and Syracuse, sitting at opposite ends of the Big East spectrum at the start of Saturday's contest at Heinz Field, set out to establish an inside running game complemented by an occasional reverse to loosen up the opposing defense. Each wanted to use the tight end as a featured receiver. Each wanted to take some deep shots to stretch the field vertically.
