Manhattanite Colin Beavan morphed into "no impact man because he wanted to take individual responsibility for minimizing his lifestyle footprint.

So he's shocked and awed that his yearlong experiment documented first in a blog, and then in a book and movie released this year has inspired multitudes to follow in his lighter-on-the-land footsteps.

More than 280 of his disciples flocked to the nation's capital Oct. 28 to hear Beavan's keynote address at the Alice Ferguson Foundation's fourth annual Potomac Watershed Trash Summit.
