United States to raise loans of Rs 1,000-1,200 crore. Negotiations with the foreign bank began after the finance ministry rejected AAI s proposal to issue Rs 5,000 crore tax-free bonds to fund their expansion project as well as modernisation and upgradation.

After finance ministry s disapproval, we are now looking at market borrowings. Our budgeted borrowings are Rs 2,000 crore. However, our present requirement is only about Rs 1,000-1,200 crore. We will borrow money in various phases, and the first tranche will come by March next year. We are looking at a tie-up with the US Exim Bank, S C Chhatwal, member, finance, (AAI), said.
