Governments needed to work with the airline industry to eliminate ineffective duplication of aviation security procedures, the International Air Transport Association (Iata) said on Tuesday.
The financial crisis had made it even more important for them to work together to ensure money was spent effectively, Iata director-general and CEO Giovanni Bisignani told the Aviation Security World Conference in Cape Town.
"It is time to eliminate ineffective and costly duplication of aviation security procedures. They are costly for airlines and a hassle for our passengers, but do nothing to improve security."
