The annual time for giving - and getting - gifts is upon us with a lot of the present exchanges happening at corporate level where some see it as way to curry favour for future business or advancement.

There's no such thing as a free lunch - one of my first news editors threw those pearls of wisdom at me way back when there were typewriters, hot metal printing and reporters shouting "COPY!", which drew people out of the woodwork to snatch copy paper and rush it to the news editor and chief sub.
