"3-Acetyl-4-hydroxy coumarins 1a-d on condensation with diethyl carbonate in pulverized sodium gave 4-hydroxy 2H, 5H pyrano [3,2-c) pyranobenzopyran 2,5-diones 2a-d which on condensation with 2-bromocyclohexanone gave 9-methyl-4-(cyclohexan-2-onyloxy)-pyrano [3,2-c] benzopyran-2,5-diones 3a-d. 3a-d on treatment with ethanolic KOH gave cyclized products 3-methyl-6H, 12H-7,8,9,10-tetrahydrobenzofuro [2',3':4,5] pyrano [3,2-c] benzopyran 6,12-diones 4a-d. 4a-d on dehydrogenation with palladised carbon (10%) yielded 6H, 12H-benzofuro [2',3':4,5] pyrano [3,2-c] benzopyran-6,12 diones 5a-d. 2a-d on treatment with aniline gave 4-anilino-9-methyl-pyrano [3,2-c] ...
