CEO: Knowledge management? Yea, we do that.
Consultant: Do you do it well?
CEO: Yes, but I'm sure we could do it better.
This is the common refrain of CEOs and camp directors alike. Look what happens when organizations begin to make knowledge management a priority: Rank Xerox reduced costs up to $1 billion using a combination of knowledge management and benchmarking practices. Texas Instruments saved roughly $650 million, Chevron $150 million, and Dow Chemical saved $40 million, but the median savings is more like $60 million.
