"We propose and investigate dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm with an adaptive polling cycle (DBA-APC) to maximize the TCP throughput in an Ether passive optical network," investigators in Kokubunji, Japan report.
"DBA-APC is designed to overcome the limiting factors of current DBA algorithms, such as inefficient TCP throughput in the downstream and upstream directions. The algorithm is based on a polling cycle adjustment that considers bandwidth utilization and the round-trip time of the TCP," wrote H. Ikeda and colleagues, Hitachi, Ltd..
