The first all-black children's book with an accompanying rag doll were the subject of an emotional celebration for author and designer, Paris E. Tompkins. After more than 18 years of failed contracts, and many starts and stops, the 66-year old Tompkins is finally bringing her imaginary land of "Oodleville" and its ethnically decorated character dolls called "Oodles" to readers in "the Land Beyond," which we call Earth.
