Colombian farmers are suing BP Exploration Co. for the environmental damage to their land caused during the construction of a crude oil pipeline.

BP in 1995 began construction on the 450-mile Ocensa pipeline in Colombia to transport 620,000 barrels of crude oil per day to an export terminal.

The farmers claim the construction of the pipeline caused landslides, soil erosion and other environmental damages, noting they were not adequately informed of the potential risk, London's Guardian newspaper reports.

The group of 95 farmers complains that while BP offered compensation, they were exploited and offered minor pay.
