Article: Tough penalty for cyber crimes urged.

CYBER criminals in Bahrain could face up to five years in jail, up to BD200,000 fine or both, it emerged yesterday.

The new bill was discussed yesterday by parliament's foreign affairs, defence and national security committee.

It stipulates that those who use their computers for criminal activities such as terrorism, disruption of aviation systems and stealing money from bank accounts, would face five years in jail, BD200,000 fine or both.

Others who attempt to carry out the crime or help in tampering with evidence to conceal their involvement would get not more than two years in jail, and a fine up to BD100,000, or both.
