High winds last night didn't translate into major power outages over the south Vancouver Island region this morning. As of 8:30 a.m., B.C. Hydro was reporting that Saanich had most of the power outages with 141 customers without service east of Shelbourne Street and 92 east of Prospect Avenue. However, service was back on after 9 a.m. They were minor outages in a number of other areas affecting less than 10 homes in each case.
The Gulf Islands were harder hit with 1,400 out on Mayne Island, 200 on Pender Island, 163 on Saturna Island and 107 in Ganges. A wind warning for Greater Victoria was in effect this morning but has ended.
