NEW YORK -- In less than eight years, Bath & Body Works has changed the face of fragrance retailing in America. Now, with a full line of makeup set to be launched in January, the company is poised to shake up the color cosmetics industry as well.
Bath & Body Works' winning formula has been copied by virtually every bath retailer in the country, from drugstores to department stores. The chain appeals to consumers with a constant flow of new fragrances and products, low price points and entertaining merchandising. Couple that with a profitable, vertically integrated structure and the result is an industry powerhouse with 1,400 stores and more than $1 billion in sales.
