Paris, where teams representing thirty-two nations competed for Football's Holy Grail, the World Cup, was the world's focal point during June and July. Didier Deschamps, the host country's captain lifted the trophy on 12 July after France's 3-0 win over defending champions Brazil, concluding what the World Cup French Organising Committee (CFO) billed as the `end of the century's greatest media event'. According to the CFO `over 100 television channels, 150 radio stations, 37 billion viewers (cumulative) and 9,500 members of the print and audio-visual media' contributed to the global multi-media spectacle.
