California Sen. Barbara Boxer has exposed herself as a political lightweight on Capitol Hill. Now, she faces a stiff challenge from state Treasurer Matt Fong in November.

Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer is on the ropes. With only a few weeks until the November election, California's snarling darling of high-decibel progressive politics is floundering at the polls where GOP contender, state Treasurer Matt Fong -- a soft-spoken colonel in the U.S. Air Force reserves whose public persona is not of the sort that usually sets the flash bulbs popping -- now threatens to overtake her.
