Breast cancer is a health issue that is a minefield of controversy. Diagnosis, treatments, and risk factors are a few of the issues women face when inquiring about breast cancer. In spite of heightened awareness, breast cancer death rates have not decreased in more than 50 years.(1) The incidence of breast cancer among American females has actually increased for the past 30 years, for reasons that are not understood. Awareness and financial support are goals of several agencies and organizations whose purpose is to decrease the incidence of breast cancer.
