If there was one person who represented the bravado and ballyhoo of the Roaring '20s, it was the "Rock," University of Notre Dame football coach Knute Rockne. Rockne transformed a tiny Catholic university from obscurity to national prominence.
Practically no one had heard of the University' of Notre Dame when Rockne first attended classes in South Bend in 1913. A poor, Norwegian immigrant, he had worked in a Chicago post office for several years to earn enough money to attend college.
