Free faxing over the Internet? Forget it. But just because it's not free doesn't mean it's not worth pursuing.
Think fax over the Internet costs less than fax over direct dial? Think again. Even internationally, there s one basic problem that blocks low prices: An Internet-to-fax gateway still has to complete a call to deliver a page to a fax machine, and that means at some point it has to run over the public switched telephone network, which makes it subject to costs imposed at the receiving end.
