Setting an old adage on its ear, a widely-distributed photograph of Warrant Officer Rick Duncan of the 1 RCR Pioneer Platoon sporting a big, black beard at a barricade at Mitrovica in Kosovo has let loose a thousand words -- and more. Few photographs of military personnel in recent years have coughed up such a hairball of controversy. Esprit de Corps and newspapers across the country have been deluged with letters to the editor.
Some have complained that Warrant Officer Duncan's appearance is a disgrace to the Canadian Armed Forces. He has variously been described as slovenly, a desperado and a biker; a refugee from the "Hell's Angels." ...
